This is another UNESCO World Heritage site in Uji, south of Kyoto Station. It figures prominently in the last 10 chapters of the Tale of Genji and was originally a private home. I sat on a rock at the edge of the lake and did this sketch as many Japanese visitors stopped and look on. We have a full-scale replica of this temple here on Oahu, in Hawaii. This is a Pure-Land Buddhist Temple

Linda: a nice example to see the uniqueness of the artistic view of a place with abundant photographic descriptions (''This place in pictures'', Panoramio). Thanks!
